Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes. United Mental Health and Wellness, PLLC offers virtual telehealth/telepsychiatry appointments to clients across North Carolina via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

2. Do you offer in-person/in-office appointments?

Yes, in-office appointments are available by request for clients who prefer in-office visits. These are offered on a scheduled basis at our physical location within Origins Counseling and Wellness Therapy: 704 Cromwell Dr., Suite A, Greenville, NC 27834.

Please contact us to discuss availability or to request an in-office visit.

3. What services do you provide?

We offer:

  • Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations

  • Psychiatric Medication Management (prescribing psychiatric medications)

    • Brief supportive add-on psychotherapy (as needed in conjunction with medication management visit). Please note we do not offer therapy-only appointments at this time.

  • Genesight Psychotropic Pharmacogenomic Testing

Each treatment plan is tailored to support your mental health goals with compassion, care, and clinical expertise.

4. Do you provide therapy-only appointments?

No, we do not offer stand-alone therapy appointments at this time. Our primary focus is psychiatric medication management, which may include brief supportive therapy when clinically appropriate. These moments of supportive care are designed to enhance your medication treatment plan by providing space to discuss current challenges, emotions, or stressors. However, this does not replace comprehensive psychotherapy.

5. I don’t have a therapist. Do you recommend I establish care with a therapist for psychotherapy?

Yes—absolutely! We highly encourage all patients receiving psychiatric medication to also establish care with a licensed therapist. Therapy and medication can work hand-in-hand to enhance your mental health outcomes, improve coping skills, and support long-term emotional wellness.

While we may offer brief supportive therapy during medication management appointments when appropriate, this does not replace the benefits of ongoing psychotherapy. If you’re not currently connected with a therapist, we’re happy to offer referrals to providers in your area or insurance network.

6. What is GeneSight® Pharmacogenomic Psychotropic Testing? Is it required?

We offer the GeneSight® Pharmacogenomic Psychotropic Test—a genetic test that can help guide medication choices based on your unique DNA. It is completely optional and is NOT required.

If you’ve struggled with finding the right psychiatric medication or experienced unwanted side effects, this test may offer clarity. GeneSight analyzes how your genes may affect your response to certain medications commonly prescribed for conditions like depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and more. This information can help identify which medications may be more likely to work well for you—and which may require more caution or be less effective.

The process is simple, non-invasive, and can be completed with a quick cheek swab during your appointment.

Please note: GeneSight testing is not required for treatment and is used only when clinically appropriate. We’ll discuss whether this option may be helpful as part of your personalized care plan.

7. How much does GeneSight® testing cost, and is it covered by insurance?

GeneSight® testing is often covered by many commercial insurance plans. The cost to you will depend on your specific insurance coverage. GeneSight also offers a Financial Assistance Program to help reduce out-of-pocket costs for eligible patients. If you are uninsured or your plan doesn’t cover the test, a maximum self-pay cost is provided up-front so there are no surprises.

The test is completely optional and only recommended when it may be clinically helpful in guiding medication choices.

For your convenience, GeneSight testing can also be completed from the comfort of your home. We’ll provide instructions and coordinate delivery of a test kit, or you may choose to complete it during an in-person visit if preferred.
