  • What Is a Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation?

A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation is the often the first step in your journey toward improved mental health. At United Mental Health and Wellness, PLLC, this comprehensive assessment is your initial intake visit that is designed to help us understand what you're experiencing and how we can best support your wellness goals.

How long does this appointment last?

    Approximately 60 minutes.

    What to Expect?

Your evaluation is a collaborative conversation, not a test. In a safe and judgment-free environment, we’ll discuss:

    • Your current symptoms and concerns

    • Your medical, mental health, and family history

    • Any past treatments or medications you've tried

    • Lifestyle factors such as sleep, stress, and support systems

You’re encouraged to speak freely. Your voice matters, and your lived experience is a vital part of the care we build together.

    Why It's Important?

This evaluation helps determine whether you may be experiencing conditions such as:

    • Anxiety

    • Depression

    • ADHD

    • PTSD

    • Bipolar disorder

    • Insomnia

Based on what we learn, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. This may include:

    • Medication management

    • Brief supportive therapy

    • Referrals to other providers (if additional support is needed)

  • Psychiatric medication management involves assessing your medication needs, prescribing medications as appropriate, and ongoing monitoring to ensure they’re helping you manage symptoms and improve daily functioning. It starts with a comprehensive evaluation of your symptoms, history, and treatment goals.

Our provider is trained to personalize your medication plan, adjusting treatments to support your mental well-being. We understand the importance of finding the right balance for managing mental health conditions, and we’re here to guide you through medication adjustments or discontinuation when needed.

We offer online and in-person appointments for your convenience.

Please Note: We DO NOT prescribe the following controlled substances, including:

    • Benzodiazepines (e.g., Alprazolam [Xanax], Clonazepam [Klonopin], Diazepam [Valium], Lorazepam [Ativan])

    • Stimulants (e.g., Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine [Adderall], Methylphenidate [Ritalin, Concerta], Lisdexamfetamine[Vyvanse])

    • Opioids (e.g., Buprenorphine [Suboxone], Methadone, Naloxone [Narcan])

While we avoid prescribing benzodiazepines and stimulant medications due to their associated risks, we work closely with you to find non-controlled medications that effectively target your symptoms and support long-term wellness.

    Supportive Therapy Add-On
We may also offer brief supportive therapy during medication management appointments when appropriate. These sessions provide emotional support and coping strategies but are not a substitute for ongoing therapy. We encourage collaboration with a licensed therapist and can provide referrals if needed.

  • Genetic Testing for Medication Guidance (GeneSight® Pharmacogenomic Psychotropic Test)

At United Mental Health and Wellness, we are committed to providing personalized, evidence-based care. As part of that commitment, we offer the GeneSight® Pharmacogenomic Psychotropic Test—a genetic test that can help guide medication choices based on your unique DNA.

If you’ve struggled with finding the right psychiatric medication or experienced unwanted side effects, this test may offer clarity. GeneSight analyzes how your genes may affect your response to certain medications commonly prescribed for conditions like depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and more. This information can help identify which medications may be more likely to work well for you—and which may require more caution or be less effective.

The process is simple, non-invasive, and can be completed with a quick cheek swab during your appointment.

Please note: GeneSight testing is not required for treatment and is used only when clinically appropriate. We’ll discuss whether this option may be helpful as part of your personalized care plan.
